The Tissue Recovery Coordinator is a member of the BioDLogics /Integra LifeSciences – Memphis Tissue Recovery Department employed to perform birth tissue recoveries and ensure compliance with departmental procedures and industry standards/regulations throughout the process. The Tissue Recovery Coordinator is responsible for screening birth tissue donors and obtaining consent for the donation. The Recovery technician needs to be familiar with all AATB standards and FDA regulations that apply to birth tissue donation. Recovery Technician’s must have excellent customer service skills and have the ability to communicate effectively with hospital staff. They are responsible for the recovery of birth tissue, completing donor charts to include, packaging and shipping of the tissue and any additional duties assigned to them by their lead/director.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with donor hospital staff.
• Provide information regarding the donation process and offer the option of tissue donation to potential donors.
• Complete and document informed consent, medical/social history questionnaire and physical assessment with potential donors.
• Gather, review and document information for donor screening from relevant medical records.
• Assemble all required samples necessary for donor testing.
• Coordinate recovery of birth tissues for transplantation following live cesarean births and document all recovery activities.
• Package and transport/ship birth tissues for transplantation and other appropriate specimens.
• Enter donor information and recovery-related documentation into the electronic Donor Eligibility System, ensuring all records are correct, accurate and complete.
• Compile donor eligibility related records, including serology and recovery culture results, in a timely manner and in accordance with policies, procedures and all regulatory and industry requirements.
• Maintain and track inventory of tissue recovery supplies/reagents.
• Maintain current knowledge of policies, procedures and protocols and execute job responsibilities in accordance with such policies, procedures and protocols.
• Work with management staff to ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards.
• Perform other duties as required.
REQUIRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
• Bachelor degree with 0-2 years of experience or equivalent education and years of experience
• Certified Surgical Technician, Surgical Assistant, Certified First Assistant or Physician’s Assistant preferred
• Knowledge of sterile technique preferred.
• AATB Certified Tissue Bank Specialist (CTBS) and/or EBAA Certified Eye Bank Technician (CEBT) preferred
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
